4th of July

We had a variety of 4th of July adventures, including a rained out fireworks show in Sedalia, family campout in the backyard, and another 14er for me.

Setting up the tent was probably the most fun part for the kids. We lasted until about midnight when a slight bathroom mishap (I won't say who it was - but I'll take myself out of the running) sent us inside for the rest of the night.

Dave Koenig, JR Brockman and I climbed Mt. Sherman on the Monday holiday. It is one of the easier 14ers - we wanted to get in a warm-up before our backpacking trip next week - and it was JRs first 14er! It started out pretty chilly and never really warmed up much.

The winds near the top got pretty strong which made the hiking a bit more difficult.

We didn't stay at the top too long, as the winds were whipping.

We took a different route on the way down and stayed out of the wind, which made the hiking more pleasant.

There were some cool old abandoned mines and buildings all around, and although not one of the more scenic 14ers it was still a fun hike. It's always fun to feel like you're sitting on top of the world.
